Ernest A Becker V
Lincoln Christian University
During my Composition course I completed four papers not including this one. This paper will include a brief evaluation of the four papers, an assessment of my writing, how the course affected my development as a writer, description of my writing habit process and an analysis of my performance of this course.
I will begin with the four evaluations:
Finalized Autobiographical Sketch
In the Autobiography of Ernest A. Becker V he shares his accomplishments that have been achieved through his work and career’s. The sequences of events are in chronological order from youngest to current; this clearly depicts the transition points as he moved from one career to another. He shows a connection between opening his first business, to perusing Christian Ministry Leadership, there is a leadership thread that is shown throughout his life. Ernest is clear in his presentation although more detail could have been included.
Literacy Narrative Paper
In Developing Skills we see that you can lack certain skills, but with commitment and persistency you will develop the skills. Ernest shows us how in his life he was able to step out in courage and face his fear of reading and writing. There were many struggles along the way that tempted him to quit. Many people in their life can relate to the journey that he has been on, not specially, but in a general sense. Through the development you see that God was present.
Finalized Evaluation Paper
In Life Ernie writes about how we receive spiritual life and escape the power of death. The biblical scriptures used, clearly depict how we can gain spiritual life and the benefits of it. He goes on to say that life is something we choose because we are given freewill. The paper was we versed in Christianity, leaning to an audience of Christians. A seeker would gain a lot from this paper as well. There are many aspects of the Christian Belief that one could continue on a subject that would lead you all over the bible. Overall the paper delivers what it intends to deliver.
Finalized Textual Analysis
In Addiction written by Ernest A. Becker V we see that he traces behaviors back to biblical times and journeys before the word addiction came into existence. The same challenges and behaviors we face today are similar to those of biblical times. He introduces several other words and definitions that tie into addiction. The most significant would be the word Idol. Idol is the word used prior to the word addiction. This writing is designed to get the reader intrigued; it does a great job in doing so. He makes several resources available to the reader, allowing them to do further research are they choose to.
As I reflect on the four evaluations I feel the developing skills is my favorite piece, for flow and clarity. I would say that my least favorite piece is the Autobiographical Sketch; I would have gone into more detail by restructuring the paragraphs.
When I look at all of my work from beginning of class to now I see that I do well at structure and flow. I need to work on creating stronger beginnings and endings. I see that my punctuation needs more work. I want my work to say I am a clear communicator, I think my work is authentic and real.
I can see a difference in my daily communication to others and my clients. The emails I send are clearer and thought out. Reviewing my writing in the past it lacked punctuation and structure, whereas now there is improvement. I now know how to structure a paper and know word better. I know how to cite work and use punctuation better. I still would like to get better at punctuation and sentence structure.
I usually start my writing with starting to write but that does not work that well. I can now see when I review and do research that my writing flows better. One of the things that have been brought to my attention is proof reading; I rarely did this because I want to get to the next thing on my list. I now see the importance to proofreading prior to publishing.
My performance of this course was good, I did not rate myself as great because there were times that I did not allow myself enough time. This caused me to be rushed, therefore the assignments suffered the detail that I would have liked them to have. I am so thankful for my wife and a few friends that were available to review my worked and give me feedback. This has been one of the most valuable tools that I have.
I have to mention that my peers and teacher has made this journey enjoyable. The class time structure where we review each other’s work speaks more to me than just reading a book. The Norton field guide is a very well written and structured in a way that has made it easy to navigate the curriculum.
I am amazed of how much I have grown as a writer since enrollment. My overall writing performance has increased. The way I read and communicate has strengthened by the speed of my reading, punctuation has improved, my understanding the use of words, formatting different genres and writing a prices’. I find reading and writing more enjoyable although I still have lots more to learn.
