Are you a perfectionist?
There is no such thing as perfect, unless you are Christ; each person has their own idea of perfect. As a Christian our goal is to aim towards perfection (to be Christ like), but not to expect to be perfect (to be Christ). Living most of my life as a perfectionist I realized that I was setting myself up for failure because I had put expectations on myself, which I could not attain. I had an illusion that I could control everything in my life, so I set out to do exactly that; as a result, I left a wake of destruction behind me (hurt people, wrecked relationships, loss of everything that was dear to me, etc.). Once I started focusing on my daily progress, I was able to give myself some grace, which in turn gave others grace. I began to experience the Christ like behavior of grace for others; bringing me closer to God and the feeling of joy.
“Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me†(Philippians 3:12 New International Version).
Describe how shifting from a perfectionist view to a progress view could change your life?
