Nazareth lies in the hills of southern Galilee, midway between the Sea of Galilee and the Mediterranean. It is first mentioned in the Bible at the time of Annunciation (Luke 1:26). It was a small village off the regular trade routes, Nathanael’s words “Can any good thing come out of Nazareth?” (John 1:46) indicates its lack of reputation. Joseph, the carpenter lived here and from Nazareth he took his wife, Mary, to Bethlehem, where Jesus was born (Luke 2:4) See (Matthew 2:23; Luke 2:39-52).
