MAKING AMENDS

When was the last time you made an amends?

This can be one of the most freeing things to do but yet the most difficult. I have learned to use this in creating peace within myself and in relationships with people. The important thing is that your heart is right before making an amends. I often have to pray and ask God to change my heart to be more in line with Christ’s ways. I remember having a picture of someone that did something hurtful to me so I ripped that picture up. Later a friend of mine had a picture of that person and there I was all upset and irritated again. I did not know it then but I was holding onto a resentment and bitterness and by ripping up the photo and not having it I thought I had forgotten and forgiven that person. The truth Is, if a thought or a memory sparks up anger then we have not truly forgiven the person. Since I have fully let go of that resentment and bitterness, I am able to see that person and have absolutely no anger towards them. This blows me away but through my work in getting to know Christ I have been given this gift.

Matthew 5:22-23 But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, Raca, is answerable to the court. And anyone who says you fool! Will be in danger of the fire of hell. “ Therefore, if you are offering a gift at the altar and there remember that your brother of sister has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift.

Do you have someone you need to make amends to?
