INTIMACY

What is intimacy?

I spent most of my life thinking intimacy was Sex but it is not. Although sex can be intimate. Intimacy means mutually honest, warm, caring and safe relationships – relationships where the other person can be who he or she is and we can be who we are.

“Intimacy is a relationship of Love and Trust” it is a gift of feeling connected to others and enjoying our connection with them. I had no idea that I could have an intimate relationship with another man, until I learned the meaning and became healthy myself.

Today I have deep relationships with both men and women. These relationships have become the most important things in my life. The behaviors that prevent or hurt intimacy are: abuse, control, addictions, nagging, withdrawing, shutting down and unresolved family of origin issues.

Melody Beattie’s book “The Language of letting go” is a great resource on this subject.

Do you have anyone in your life that you are intimate with?

How can you shift into intimacy with someone (SAFE)?
