COMMANDMENTS

What do you think when you hear the word Commandment?

In my life I have had different thoughts go through my head when the word commandment was mentioned like rules, regulations, control and religion just to mention a few. Today I know that the commandments are there to protect us and for us to show our love to God, they are nothing like what I thought because of my ignorance to the Word of God. As I continue to grow in my faith, knowledge and understanding of God’s word my entire life continues to flourish.

The best analogy was one that TD Jakes gives “The commandments are like a speed limit sign and the car speedometer is my actions” the sign gives me something to aim for and the speedometer will show where I sit compared to the sign.

There are many commandments throughout scripture but the most widely recognized are the 10 commandments and the 2 that Christ brought. If we just focus on the two in the New Testament which are basically “Love God and Love your neighbor as yourself” they tie directly into the 10.   the first 4 of the 10 have to do with our relationship with Him and the final 6 has to do with our relatinship with others.

Jesus models this for us throughout his life and illustrations that he shared. John 14:15 If you love me, keep my commands (I have had people ask me how do I love God, it’s simply stated in this verse)

Where are you shrinking in keeping the commandments?

How can you get more in alignment with them?
