CAESAREA PHILIPPI AND GOLAN HEIGHTS DAY 6

Caesarea Philippi is situated at the base of Mt. Hermon, northeast of the Sea of Galilee.  It was probably the point farthest north to which Jesus traveled.   Because of the close associations with pagan worship, it is significant that Jesus should have chosen Caesarea Philippi as the place where He asked His disciples, “Whom do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” (Matthew 16:16; Mark 8:27).  And here He elicited from Peter, through the revelation of the Father, the glorious revelation, “thou art the Christ, the Son of the Living God” (Matthew 16:16).  From here a spring flows, which is one of the principle sources of the Jordan River.

Golan Heights is sometimes referred to as the Syrian Heights, from a rocky plateau of great strategic importance with an average altitude of 3,300 ft and an area totaling 690 square miles.  The children of Israel conquered the Golan from the Amorites (Deuteronomy 3:1-7).
