Banias is an archaeological site by the uninhabited former city of Caesarea Philippi located at the floor of Mount Hermon in the Golan Heights (claimed by Israel and Syria, administered by Israel) This was a detour on our trip as this day produced lots of rain so they figured we were wet anyways. While at the base of the falls the mist was so thick that you got drenched just standing there.
Mount Bental is 1,170 meters above sea level and provides beautiful views of Mount Hermon and the Golan. It is one of a series of volcanic mounds in the Golan Heights and is part of the Golan Heights Volcanic Park. From Mount Bental, you can see the Kunetra Valley, also known as the Valley of Tears, which was the site of one of the Yom Kippur War’s bloodiest battles.
