LIFE
Life for humans started when God created us. Life is described throughout the bible but I want to specifically talk about our spiritual life and what it means to have Life. A great way to understand the reason for life is to understand what it is not. Death is the result of our sin; it is complete separation from God and our indulgence in our own selfish desires. A clear description can be found here “Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the spirit†(Galatians 6:8).
We gain Life through loving Jesus! We do this by obeying His commands and being in relationship with Him. Once we accept Christ then we are able to receive the Holy Spirit, it is what produces fruit in our lives. “But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control†(Galatians 5:22-23).
When we want to see if we or someone we know has spiritual life, all we have to do is an assessment that involves identifying what fruit is being possessed in our lives. Many people say their relationship with Jesus has brought this fruit in their life and even in adverse circumstances they still possessed this fruit. Possessing this fruit in our lives is evidence that we have a spiritual life. Find out for yourself: seek, believe, receive and witness the power of life through Jesus. Jesus gives us freewill, the will to choose our own way. You could say that He is a perfect gentleman; he will let us wander down our own chosen path. He does not try to control us, he allows us to choose. He makes life available to all that accept Him therefore choosing Life or Death. The truth of the matter is that we all are selfish by nature, this stirs up a fight within each of use to either do what we want (death) or what God wants (Life).
When someone accepts Jesus they experience a whole new perspective on life. Have you ever worn sunglasses and then switched to sunglasses that are polarized? The depths of the colors become vibrant and deep. This is similar to what happens when someone accepts Jesus and the Holy Spirit becomes their guide in life. Accepting Jesus as our Lord and Savior gives us life “Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have God’s Son does not have life†(1 John 5:12). As disciples of Jesus we need to be ever vigilant in living a life that produces spiritual fruit. This life will attract others in accepting him as their Savior, ultimately bringing them into a spiritual life.
